Each day during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we provide a starting point, reflection, questions and a prayer based on the theme. Here you can turn your reflections into action with our Go and Do points. Please check here for any updates.

Day 1

  • Personal: Reflect upon what your Christian tradition means to you and write a short diary entry about it.
  • Local: Visit the worship service of another Christian church in your local community and write a short diary entry on what you experience.
  • Global: Try bringing together a small discussion group to reflect upon what the Nicaea 1700 anniversary means for you.

Day 2

  • Personal: Complete a task you have been avoiding.
  • Local: Consider initiatives in your community that require perseverance and consistency and explore ways to become usefully supportive.
  • Global: There are issues in our world today that cause ‘overload apathy’ – the feeling that it is too big to do anything about so we shield ourselves. An orthodox rabbi was asked once how he observed the 613 commandments in the Torah. His answer: ‘Pick one and start.’ Go and do the same.

Day 3

  • Personal: Create an image (for example, a picture, photo or work of art) which symbolises peace for you, and share it in whatever way you feel is appropriate.a
  • Local: Identify an area of tension within your local church community, or the community at large, and consider how practically to bring true peace to that situation.
  • Global: The world today faces growing tensions, conflict and actual warfare. What one thing could your church or group of churches commit to doing to challenge that reality?

Day 4

  • Personal: Go and share your experience of God with one person.
  • Local: Go out with a group from your church and share the good news of God in your community.
  • Global: Choose one of the campaigns by Christian Aid or CAFOD and promote them in your church, parish or local ecumenical group.

Day 5

  • Personal: Keep a journal for a week (or for seven days spread out over a period of time), reflecting each day on the meaning of your baptism or Christian initiation.
  • Local: Discuss what collaborative initiatives the churches in your community could undertake to celebrate your shared faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Global: Organise an event celebrating the global unity of the churches
    with creation.

Day 6

  • Personal: Explore ways to express the love of God to a neighbour.
  • Local: Explore ways to honour the Body of Christ of which we are a part.
  • Global: Take a world map and find time to pray with others over the entire world for seven days.

Day 7

  • Personal: Speak to some people you trust about what gifts they recognise in you and explore how you might invest in them and use them for God.
  • Local: Seek out projects in your area that are good examples of diverse groups coming together, and volunteer.
  • Global: Where do you notice examples of exclusion and weaponising of difference in society? Explore Christian Aid or CAFOD stories from around the world and try some of their suggestions about engagement.

Day 8

  • Personal: Reflect on where you are afraid to go. Have a conversation with someone you trust about discipleship opportunities that feel challenging.
  • Local: Find a group or local activity that stretches your faith and service, and learn a bit more by engaging with them.
  • Global: Find something culturally distant and uncomfortable for you and engage and learn from it.
