An international women’s delegation to South Korea, organised by the Women Cross DMZ and the Nobel Women’s Initiative, began on May 23 2018 with orientations about the current situation in Korea. Delegates were also asked to describe how they felt about this moment on the Korean peninsula—cautiously optimistic, inspired, and hopeful. Senior Advisory Council to the Blue House on Inter-Korean Summit, Lee-Kim Hyun-Sook, gave a presentation on Korean women’s peacebuilding from the nineties to the present, and spoke to women’s inclusion in the current peace process.
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace laureate, and Christine Ahn, International Coordinator of Women Cross DMZ, led a press conference to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the Korean conflict and for the inclusion of women in the process. Women Peace Walk, Women Cross DMZ, and Nobel Women’s Initiative issued a declaration about the peace process.
#WomenPeaceKorea held an evening Women Peace Candle March with feminist activists from around the world, walking for peace in Korea and women’s inclusion in the process. The Women Cross DMZ Facebook page has videos of talks by Mairead Maguire and Erica Fein (Advocacy Director at Win Without War).
