Twenty eight participants, consisting of twenty one sisters, two priests and five lay people gathered for the opening of the 3rd three year training programme for spiritual directors at the National Catholic Seminary, Beijing on July 5th, 2015.
Bishop Ma Yin Ling, President of the Bishops Conference of China opened the programme.
The participants were selected from 136 applications from all parts of China and have been involved in a variety of ministries, teaching, parish work, and formation.
The participants will have three one month summer schools during 2015, 2016 and 2017 and on-going supervision between summer schools.
Five resident staff, Chinese citizens, will facilitate the process of the programme. Three have been staff members on previous programmes and two are graduates of the first programme which we ran from 2007-2010 and who have received further training.
Three visiting staff will come from the US, the Philippines and the UK for specialised input.
The programme began with a six day silent directed retreat which is the foundation for training to be a spiritual director. This will be followed during this month by attention to ‘ways’ of prayer, the anthropology of Christian Vocation and the practise of spiritual direction. All participants will have personal accompaniment twice each week and other individual and group exercises during the Summer School.
