Congregational Federation break with tradition and welcome a new female General Secretary into post.
The Congregational Federation is pleased to announce that on Monday 13th July 2015 they welcomed Mrs. Yvonne Campbell into the role of General Secretary. The Congregational Federation is a voluntary association of independent Churches throughout England, Wales and Scotland whose objective is the advancement and furtherance of the Christian faith.
This is the first time a woman has been appointed as General Secretary in the 43 years of the federation existence.
Yvonne’s job has evolved in a different direction to previous holders of the role; she is an ambassador for the Federation and is a support mechanism for the churches within the Federation.
Yvonne is quoted as saying “I didn’t expect to get the job as General Secretary and still can’t quite believe it. Yet in my heart of hearts I knew if I was offered it, I would have to take it, no matter how many wobbles I felt.
I don’t really know how this job will develop as the role has changed! My primary purpose is to be an advocate of Congregationalism. I want to be able to visit churches and encourage people. I’m interested in studying Congregationalism afresh and supporting churches in how it works in 2015.”
The President of the Congregational Federation Betty Bentham says “I give my full support and encouragement to Yvonne as she takes up her role as our General Secretary, I am sure she will bring a vibrant and fresh approach to our Churches. I very much look forward to working with her. We pray God’s Blessing on all she does.”
The Congregational Federation are looking forward to working with Yvonne to develop the churches within their denomination.
